The Wisconsin Telephone Relay Service was created to assist individuals who are deaf, hard-of-hearing or have a speech disability when calling people who use standard telephones. The relay service and its operators are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Here's how it works:
Step 1: Determine the phone number of the Dane County department, elected official or employee who you would like to contact.
Step 2: Dial 7-1-1 to reach the Wisconsin Telephone Relay Service, where you’ll be introduced to a specially trained communications assistant (CA).
Step 3: The CA will act as an impartial relay during the phone call, reading the messages typed on your TTY to the person on the other line, and typing their responses to send back to you, the TTY caller.
Note that some office phone systems do not work with 7-1-1. Alternatively, the following toll-free numbers are also available to make specific types of calls, including:
